Football to be in the spin of 80 year old Jilly Cooper’s Next Novel.
Writers the world over will tell you that writing is what drives them on and Jilly Cooper is no exception. She may have chosen to write bonkbusters rather than serious fiction which changes lives and makes people think intelligently, but, nevertheless, she says, “I only have one more novel in me. I am going to be 80 in February”. Having covered showjumping, polo and racing, she is going to cover Wags – wives and girlfriends of footballers. The title is expected to be “Tackle” and will follow the takeover of a football club by Rupert Campbell-Black the “cad” who has been in other of her novels, along with the lifestyles of the footballers who play in the team – new characters very likely based on real life sportsmen in the football fraternity.
Jilly apparently grew up supporting Leeds United whilst the family cat and family dog both supported different teams. It has recently been disclosed that Mrs Cooper’s mother suffered many years of depression – something which is now openly discussed and has been also experienced by many including famous female personalities including Judy of Richard and Judy and Ruby Wax.
Mrs Cooper told broadcaster Clare Balding that she still writes on an old manual typewriter and avoids computers which have made life so much more easy for so many.
