Northern Ireland failed to get the point which could have guaranteed progress to the last 16, the results of other games still to be played will decide their fate, after their 1-0 defeat by Germany in Paris. Germany had 79 percent possession and 6 corners, but could only convert one goal. Mario Gomez side-footed 30th minute only goal in the game after Germany had wasted several chances. The narrow defeat means Northern Ireland are better placed than Albania, who finished third in Group A.
Northern Ireland managed only 196 passes to Germany’s 719.
Northern Ireland keeper Michael McGovern made eight saves as Germany rained in 28 shots on his goal.
Poland reached the knockout stages of a European Championsip for the first time as they finished second in Group C after a win over Ukraine. Arkadiusz Milik had a shot saved and Robert Lewandowski sent an effort over Poland missed two early chances. Ukraine, who are already out went close when Andriy Yarmolenko shot wide. Jakub Blaszczkowski curled in a left-foot winner shot after 53 minutes and Poland will now play Switzerland in the last 16 on Saturday. Although Ukraine had only 66 percent possession and 4 shots on target they could not score.
Spain will play Italy in the last 16 of Euro 2016, as they were runners-up in Group D after conceding a late winner against Croatia, who finish top.

An Ivan Rakitic lob hit the woodwork for Croatia, who equalised when Nikola Kalinic turned in Ivan Perisic’s cross. Turkey kept alive their faint hopes of reaching the last 16 of the Euro 2016 and eliminated the Czech Republic with an excellent victory in Lens. The result guarantees Northern Ireland go through while Turkey must wait until Wednesday to learn their fate. Burak Yilmaz scored his 21st international goal at the near post with a smart finish, put them ahead, prompting Czech pressure which saw Tomas Sivok hit the post. Volkan Babacan made a string of saves before Ozan Tufan in 65th minute smashed in from 10 yards to move Turkey third in Group D.
