Google’s Tez app rolled out for mobile payments
Google is preparing to expand Tez , the mobile payments platform that it successfully launched in India in September 2017.
Tez, the mobile payment app giving a unified payments interface developed by the National Payments Corporation of India launched on September 19, 2017 for Android and iOS and Microsoft Windows. It is popular because you can send money securely to friends, pay bills, buy online, or pay the nearby café with Tez.
Vice President of Google’s next billion users initiative and head of Tez, Diana Layfield, said, Google had drawn up a shortlist of three Asian markets and one emerging market country for Tez’s next expansion, which allows customers to pay everything from bills to street vendors with a single app. They have now 14m customers competing against the likes of Alibaba and SoftBank backed by Paytm in the Indian mobile payment markets.
The Rapid growth in India was down to demonetisation drive, which revoked the country’s two highest denomination notes as legal tender, taking out 86 per cent of the cash in circulation.
“Although we designed Tez for India first, but we were very much thinking about global market growth users including Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. We have learned a huge amount about user interface design for payments system. Diana Layfield admitted that Google does benefit indirectly from Tez, as it helps to engage the new smartphone users around the world and give them a reason to go online instantly anywhere.
