Iringole Kavu, 50 acres of forest home to rare birds, animals and flora of the Western Ghats in India are on the endangered list. Here trees are the deities including a Durga temple in the midst of this.

Iringole Kavu is one of the   108 famous Durga Hindu temples, in Kerala believed to have been consecrated by Lord Parasurama , the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu

The undergrowth of trees here houses abundant of flora and fauna. There are also three main pathways. The Myth goes , king Kamsa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva because of the fear that their eighth son Krishna who is to be born soon would be his terminator from the earth. IN rage of fury Kamsa decided to kill all their sons. Vasudeva planned to save his eighth son from the obvious danger at any cost. So the parents shifted baby Krishna to Vrindavan soon after he was born.and exhned with another baby girl ( an incarnation of the goddess Yoga Nidra or Maya in the cradle. Kamsa decided to kill the baby girl too, even after realizing she was not the eight son of Vasudeva. As he lifted the babyt abive his head, micraculously the baby became a supernatural power and remained in the atmosphere beaming high above the skies and place where beam projected was called “Irunnnol”. The olden trees were never disturbed as it is believed that the gods who descended on earth to pay obeisance to the goddess became trees and plants in the grove.

The forest is filled with over 50 species of trees including white pine, wild jack, teak, wild pepper, long pepper and over 50 species of birds including cuckoos. and eagles.
