Huawei, Samsung reveals folding smartphones costing £1987
Huawei and Samsung are in a race to persuade customers they need to spend around £2000 for new type of folding smartphones Mate X with an 8-inch display at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Mr Richard Yu of Huawei CEO claimed it was “the world’s fastest folding 5G phone”, because of its in-house processor and modem. He went on to say it is slimmer than Samsung’s folding “Galaxy Fold” smartphone.
Huawei sales thrived last year, with smartphone sales of 206m lifting its consumer group’s revenue above £40bn prompting some analyst’s views that the company could overtake Apple and Samsung and become world’s largest smartphone maker in couple of years. Huawei’s Mate X has 6.6-inch screen on the front when folded in half compared to Samsung Galaxy Fold’s 4.6-inch.
