Ikea -recalls glass lampshades due safety concerns
Ikea the Swedish retailer has recalled two popular glass ceiling lampshades due to safety concerns.
The company said 11 customers worldwide had been injured after the glass shades from some of their 2012 models of lock and Hyby lamps had fallen.
In a statement the company said: “In a few cases medical treatment was required and one customer reportedly needed stitches.” In all so far it received 224 reports due to the retaining clips breaking. The retailer said a full refund will be offered without a receipt. Ikea further said: “We take product safety very seriously and apologised for the inconvenience.
The lamps have domed white frosted glass and three plastic clips that attach the shade to the electrical light fitting. Back in January it asked customers to return LATTAJO drum sticks and LATTAJO drum as a precautionary measure because of a choking hazard for young children. Earlier this week the company admitted some couches and chairs from leather section of the website are actually made from synthetic materials 75% polyester, cotton and Plyurethane. In the leather sofas section is two-seater Kivik at £1,198, with chaise longue.
After having investigated complaints about the lampshades, the Consumer Product Safety Commission ruled : “ The plastic retaining clips that secure the glass shades to the lamp housings can break and allow the glass shades to fall, posing a laceration hazard.” The lampshades manufactured in China
