Janey set up WECare charity to rescue stray dogs in Sri Lanka
Janey Lowes (28), from County Durham, Barnard Castle, has spent two years saving Sri Lanka’s stray dogs. There are over 3 million street dogs and most puppies born rough on the street do not survive to adulthood.
Her charity WECare Worldwide set up while on holiday in Sri Lanka in 2014. The charity aims to raise money to buy the equipment needed to look after and care for dogs and to set up her own clinic at Talalla.
She gave up her lucrative job in England and went to Sri Lanka. Janet was crowned the Vet of the Year in the 2016 by National Animal Hero Awards for her work treating sick and injured street dogs, cats. and monkeys. Jane who graduated from Nottingham Vet School in 2012, and is currently studying for a CertAVP to become an advanced practitioner.
