Joe Biden now has 279 electoral votes
Joe Biden has been elected the 46th president of the United States pending the outcome of any legal challenges, after his victory in Pennsylvania took his over the winning line of 270. President elect Biden now has 279 electoral college votes, taking him past the 270 needed to win. Donald Trump is stuck at 214.
Mr Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris will make history as the first woman vice-president as well as the first black and the first Asian American vice-president
Votes are being counted in four states after Mr. Biden projected to win Nevada, Gerogia, Arizona, while Mr. Trump[ is ahead in North Carolina and Alaska.
Narrow gains for Mr.Biden in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania
were enough fro him to flip those states and win the presidency, while Mr . Trump gained in Republican strongholds such as Idaho, Utah, Arkansas and Tennessee.
