Joe Root named as the England’s new Test captain
Joe Root 26-year-old Yorkshire batsman has been named as England’s new Test captain. He succeeds Alastair Cook who resigned last weeks after over four years in charge.
Root has scored 4, 594 runs since he made his debut in December 2012. In the same time only Indian Captain Virat Kohli has scored more run than Root in all forms of International cricket.
Andrew Strauss England director said “Joe is the right man to be our next Test captain and I am thrilled that he has accepted the role. He is universally respected by his team mates, passionate about driving the test team forward and extremely excited about the prospect of leading his country.”
Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and Jos Butler were all consulted and Root emerged as the clear favourite and was offered the job over the weekend.
