Just in case you missed it – Jeremy Corbyn and a white Bentley – not to mention the coat!!
Last June about this time of the month JC appeared in a well loved Sunday broadsheet sporting the long coat and the rolls having taken part in a comedy sketch where he stated he was 7 to 7.5 out of 10 in favour of staying in the EU. Some of his fans gasped at this stunt on Channel 4’s “The Last Leg” at the time Brexit having a 10 point lead.
Labour stalwarts were infuriated at him “swanning around” in furs when serious issues were at stake. However he is still the mostly well loved Labour party leader and Corbyn remarked about his appearance and apparent sudden sense of humour, “I’ve got to keep it quiet. I’ve got to hide it, you see. I’ve always enjoyed Basil Fawlty in the past”.
Whatever, either way, it shows that the British taste for showbusiness and general flashness is in the blood. We will never be a nation of bland individuals who toe the line of grey and boring nose to the grindstone indifference.
We are all now wondering what Labour will come up with next so we can “take them seriously”. The broadsheet in question said JC’s stunt encouraged younger readers to find him more palatable and were influenced to support Labour. We are all going through Brexit whatever we voted for, as it very narrowly won. Watch this space.
