Kamala Laxman, author of children’s book passes away
Kamala Laxman, a well-known Indian author of children’s book and widow of legendary cartoonist R.K. Laxman, died at Aundh, her residence in Pune on Saturday 14th November 2015, 4:00pm. She was suffering from pneumonia, lung infection and high blood pressure for the last 20 days at the Ruby Hall Clinic and later at the Aditya Birla Hospital.
She was 90, born in Chennai, studied in St Thomas Convent and later graduated from Delhi’s Indraprastha College and studied interior decoration from Sir J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai and is survived by her son Srinivas, daughter-in-law Usha and Grand daughter Rimanika.
According to her son, she was not keeping too well and was suffering since my father’s death last year when she had said “I will join you soon”.
With several children’s books to her credit in the 1970s, Kamala was commissioned by the India Book House to write a series for children. Among her books are her book of Tenali Raman stories, which were serialised into 13 episodes and televised on Doordarshan. Thama and His missing mother which were illustrated by her late husband R.K.:Laxman.
