Kathrina Rupit – solo exhibition near London’s fashionable Ladbroke Grove – do check it out if you can!
The gallery where these paintings are for sale has a reputation for ground breaking new work, some humour and highly fashionable artworks. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the prices for works are not too exhorbitant.
Kathrina Rupit’s solo exhibition “Urban Beauty” is currently on at the London Westbank Gallery, 3-5 Thorpe Close, Notting Hill, London W10. The nearest tube is a few footsteps away – Ladbroke Grove, and this celebrated gallery is now in residence in Thorpe Close having moved from its former premises. But enough about location, what about this artist and her work? The paintings are stunningly unique and all depict women who are clearly of the diva or thespian variety. Kathrina uses a mixed media style including priming her canvasses with collage (including painted over newspaper cuttings) and montage as well as using some small carefully cut pieces of wood before painting on top of them giving some canvasses an enchanting 3D appearance. Kathrina is a Mexican and her pictures have a distinctly feminine touch. They are unique and very individual in content which says a great deal for a modern artist. Her ladies in some pictures are almost gothic with an exotic rather than sinister darkness.
Kathrina’s art has been described as both urban and Aztec. Her use of colours and patterns on her canvasses highlight the celebration of the female face and form with hairstyles an intricate part of the finished effect. If you visit you will be able to see for yourself the intelligent use of colours and innovative addition of patterns to make up canvasses which are anything but plain or predictable. Enjoy!
