KEVIN SPACEY STANDS DOWN AS LONDON OLD VIC DIRECTOR..

Old Vic

Today is William Shakespeare’s birthday and many of his plays have featured at The Old Vic.

Indisputably the most famous theatre in  The whole World – The Old Vic in London’s Waterloo area with a long and very fascinating history, has announced the US Star Kevin Spacey is now standing down as its Artistic Director after six years in the post.  News is that it is now striking a deal of sponsorship with RBC – for those not in the know, that’s  The Royal Bank of Canada. Links with Canada apparently go along with the history of the Old Vic which has had greats like Sir Laurence Olivier and Richard Burton as well as Dustin Hoffman and other world famous stars tread its boards.  Glitterati from the USA have long enjoyed links with London theatres and found it a privilege and learning curve to perform live in famous plays after being long-standing greats in world renowned  American and  British  movies. Spacey appeared in the play Clarence Darrow at The Old Vic playing the lawyer of the same name.

Matthew Warchus is taking over the reins and has been heard to say “I don’t want the Old Vic to be posh anymore”. He has promised a “brand refresh” and he has a long history of acting in Great Britain, including at Bristol Old Vic, National Youth Theatre, The Donmar Warehouse, Welsh National  Opera, Opera West End and in the USA on Broadway.  You can find more information about Matthew’s impressive career on Wikipedia.

He is married to actress Lauren Ward and they have three children.
