Led Zeppelin sued over their biggest hit – Stairway to Heaven

Led Zeppelin April 2016

There is a trial being prepared involving Robert Plant and Jimmy Page over the song Stairway to Heaven. A judge has ruled there is enough similarity to a song Taurus by Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe to warrant a case.

Wolfe wrote Taurus using the stage name Randy California in either 1966  or 1967 years before the realease of Stairway to Heaven – which became a legendary rock song in 1971.

Lawyers for Wolfe’s trustee ruled there is enough similarity for the case of infringement of copyright to be proved.

Other experts do acknowledge that within the rock business of music there are enough notes that have been used in both songs to prove a similarity – in other words the song was probably stolen from Wolfe.

Frances Alexander Malofly – lawyer for Wolfe’s trustee Michael Skidmore, praised the ruling.
