Liberty Global to bid for Vodafone
Charter Communications will pay £35bn to take over its larger peer, making it second biggest broadband provider in the US. US tycoon, John Malone 74 year old, owner of
Charter Communications, nicknamed “Cable King” publicly stated that he wanted Liberty Global, which he controls to buy Vodafone. Shares in the London-listed mobile giant
shot up last week, as it came under pressure from investors and analysts to begin talks with Liberty Global.
Vodafone boss Vittorio Colao said a time may come when integrating the pair made sense using Vodafone’s mobile waves and Liberty’s cable networks as together they could offer consumers a better deals
that include TV, mobile, broadband and home phone. The deal could result in £13bn cost savings on overlaps. The deal with make Charter the second largest provider in the US with 24m customers, behind
Camcast with 27m. He was gazumped by Vodafone when he lost a bidding war to buy Kabel Deutschland.
