London’s Euston station opened doors to homeless for Christmas dinner.
Christmas Day at Euston Station in London, Britain’s fifth-busiest train station, is quite different from what you can imagine, with people sitting down to a Christmas day feast.The Indicator board read : “Special notice: Network Rail invites you to Euston station. Merry Christmas”.
The world famous transport hub has been transformed to a hub for homeless shelter as 200 unfortunate people made the most of Christmas dinner although they still do not know where and when their next dinner will be.
Normally, Euston station like many public place should remain deserted on Christmas.
45 volunteer angels have worked overnight to transform the station ready for a banquet of smoked salmon, roast soup and even Christmas pudding with a pianist playing the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
They also took advantage of the shut WH Smith, Paper chase and Boots, and laid tables and chairs decorated with red poinsettias.
Joe Henry , the station manager said: “ I initially thought it would be impossible, but turning up to work at 6:30am and seeing everyone giving a helping hand , made this a reality and it’s wonderful. We have a big local homeless population here and I’ve seen some familiar faces”.
In the worst areas in London 25 people are homeless.
