Miami wins the world’s tallest sandcastle
Southern Miami’s Virginia beach in Florida US broke Brazil’s Guinness record for the tallest sandcastle in the world on 26th October 2015.
The official measurement of the sandcastle commissioned by Turkish Airlines as part of the inauguration of their nonstop service from Miami to Istanbul, was audited and certified by Guinness representatives, stating the world’s tallest sandcastle now stands at 45 feet 10.25 inches 15.87 meters beating previous record of 41 feet 3.67 inches. 12.59 meters set by Caterpillar Inc, in Caminho Niemeyer, Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on 11th November 2014. The Guinness World Records also recoganized the world record for the most sandcastles built in one hour, it is 2,230 created by Abenteuer Leben, Kable Eins ( Germany with the support of Thomas van den Dungen ( Netherlands) in St. Peter-Ording Germany, on 13th July 2013.
1,800 tonnes of sand was used to build the sandcastle, by Ted Siebert who now holds eight records with the help of 20 other artists, and has etched on it the “wonders” of the world including Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall of China.
