Most expensive handbag in the world
A second hand 10-year-old diamond encrusted Hermes Himalaya Birkin bag made of Nile crocodile skin with an 18-carat white gold has been sold for £162, 500 in London, becoming the most expensive handbag ever sold at Christie’s auction in Europe on Tuesday.
A 2006 version of the handbag in blue sold for £100, 000 at the same auction.
The bag is 30 cm wide smaller than the original designed by the French fashion house in 1981.
Birkin is in honour of the singer and actor Jane Birkin and Himalaya refers to the bag’s colour which resembles the snowy Asian mountain range.
Famous celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Celine Dion all have the Himalaya Birkin bag on their arm.
According to Christie’s “ that is the undisputed most valuable bag in the world”.
