Multi Star Cast embrace new USA finance saga
The Big Short is a book by Michael Lewis which spent 28 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was then converted into a movie of the same name. Plan B Entertainment financed the film – a company started between actor Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston but now owned solely by Pitt for many years.
In the cast are a host of big male names:- Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Steve Carrell John Mugaro and Finn Wittrock. It is directed by Adam McKay and was produced by McKay, Pitt and Dede Gardner.
The story is all about profiting from the financial crisis in The States of 2007-10 and plays on the eccentric nature of people who bet against the market or go against the financial grain – in this story – the collapse of the housing market monetarially speaking. Mind bending amounts of backdrop with theories and techniques and situations really only to be understood by “insiders” are hurled at us in many different scenarios and a technique is used in the film of multicutting scenes and introducing quick footage of brothels, strip joints or people dancing and living it up maybe to give us the impetus to re-focus on the jiggery pokery of the men on the make in what to others looks like a lose lose situation.
The Big Short is the kind of film which will definitely make some of us resolve to buy or download a copy once it has done the rounds of the cinemas in the hope that a second viewing will educate us a bit more on exactly what the market and terminologies all mean to a bystander/cum viewer desperate to understand and to be entertained. Watch it for yourself and see how it grabs you!
