19 people killed including 9 children  with another 32 people rushed to hospital, after a fire in a New York apartment building on the third floor of the Bronx apartment block at about 11:00 local time (16:00 GMT). Two hundred firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze, over 62 people were injured.

Fire department Commissioner Daniel Nigro said they had found victims on every floor of the 19-storey building, describing the fire as “unprecedented”.
