NIthya wins LA City Council election
Urban planner, a homeless advocate, former executive of Time’s UP Entertainment, a non-profit organisation that works against sexual harassment and abuse in the workforce, and activist Nithya V Raman, a 35-year-old resident of Boston with root to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India has won the City Council election in Los Angeles, USA.
In the election, Nitya upset incumbent Councilman David Ryu, who was council representative for 17 years after securing 56 per cent of the total votes polled against Ryu’s 52.46 per cent, a difference of 6000 votes in the District 4 City Council. 15-members.
Nitya Raman held on to her early lead over RYU.
Both candidates secured high-profile endorsements throughout the election process as Vermont Sen and Bernie Sanders endorsed Raman and speak of the House Nancy Pelosi endorsed for Ryu.
