Osaka, the first Japanese to win a Grand Slam
Naomi Osaka (20) won the US Open 6-2, 6-4 in Flushing Meadows, New York, after an irate Serena Williams accused the umpire Carlos Ramos of being a thief in the US Open Grand Slam Final.
Osaka focused to become the first Japanese to win a Grand Slam.
Global superstar Serena Williams (36) bidding for a record 24th Grand Slam title and her first since giving birth, graciously congratulated Osaka at the net after the 20th seed completed an extraordinary victory.
Osaka who was brought up in New York after her family moved over from Japan had dreamed of beating her idol in Grand Slam final.
When Williams who had already lost the first set was given a code violation at 2-1 in the second after chair umpire Carlos Ramos ruled that her coach Patrick Mouratoglou was signalling tactics from the stands which is not allowed.
