Pancake Day 2017
Happy Pancake Day 2017
The pancake day gets its name from the Christian tradition trying to be Shriven before Lent, as they go to Confession, where they admit their sins to a priest and ask for absolution. The Pancake bell would ring to call them to confession. The Pancake recipes from a pagan origin of Shrove Tuesday and the tradition of pancake tossing has been celebrated by Britons around the world for centuries.
Christians traditionally make pancakes the day before Ash Wednesday to use up food not to be eaten during Lent, which is a time for fasting.
