Pilot dies in mid-air on American Airlines
The American Airlines Airbus 320 flight AA550 Phoenix to Boston with 147 passengers and 5 crew had to be diverted to Syracuse New York on Monday 5th October 2015 as the pilot dies mid-flight and a cool headed co-pilot lands the plane safely at 7am..
The pilot appeared ill during the flight, prompting the diversion said American Airline spokeswoman Michelle Mohr .
“Medical emergency, captain is incapacitated.” Some one in the cockpit told an air traffic controller and request handling for runway” according to audio posted to LiveATC.net.
An autopsy and toxicology tests revealed the pilot died of natural causes according to the medical examiner.
