Prolific, Terrific, Individual, Original, Stunning, Punning, Weaver of Memorable Tales
William Shakespeare 26 April 1564 to 23 April 1616 is one of the most – if not THE most prolific and well loved writers of all time. Penning sixteen comedies and sixteen tragedies, as well as poetry and sonnets, in his day copies of these were done by hand, by eager helpers and ladies were not allowed on the stage – hence the comedy Shakespeare in Love was filmed.
Today is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and in Stratford – his birthplace, a 100 year tradition of celebrations was enhanced to top level due to the rounded 400 years. President Barack Obama on his visit to the UK graced the stage in Stratford to talk to people during the celebrations.
