“Psychiatrist” with fake degree worked 22 years in NHS
3,000 foreign doctors are being investigated and checked after Zholia Alemi 56, from New Zealand faked her qualifications after dropping out of Uni in the first year and managed to get work in the London and Northern NHS as a psychiatrist for 22 years. She used the “Comonwealth Route” to get a job and faked letters and documents given to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates to get work.
Alemi who practised all the usual matters of a psychiatrist was only discovered when she was convicted of trying to steal the will of an old lady’s £1.3 million fortune.
Alemi – thought to be part Iranian also drove a Lotus Elise sports car and drank expensive champagne. Officials are concerned there is a “systemic loophole” which is continuously being exploited and patients are calling for an enquiry. 3,000 doctors are now being investigated from Commonwealth Countries.
At one point Alemi was banned for 12 months from work for sectioning psychiatric patients unlawfully and was investigated for dangerous driving also. Relatives and friends of patients who were ill treated by Alemi are livid about what has happened. Alemi had links to West Yorkshire, Lancashire and Scotland. It was in Cumbria where a review was launched after Alemi stole jewellery off an elderly patient and tried to fake her will.
There have been stories before about people being able to do a medical degree on the internet and people from countries especially those in Africa, forging documents to get work in the UK NHS. Psychiatry may be a discipline where a lot of fraudulent people graduate as it is easy to work there without it being wholly apparent that someone does not have a medical degree. The Saturn Herald campaigns to prevent other criminal activity in the NHS.
