4 match Series won by England 2-1
Test Debut – SC Cook (South Africa)
Player of the Match – K Rabada ( South Africa) with 13 match wickets
Player of the series – BA Stokes (England)
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat.
Kagiso Rabada, only the third South Afrian to take so many wickets in a test and completed a 13-wicket haul in the match as South Africa humiliated England by 280 runs in the final test at the Centurion. His match figures 13 for 145 runs in the match. Although England won the series 2-1, South Africa won their first test convincingly in 10 outings – a remarkable recovery after their defeats in Durban and Johannesburg.
England lost three wickets in 21 overs on the fourth day and capsized on the final day morning within an hour lost 7 wickets for 49 runs in 13.4 overs. After winning the series it is fair to suggest that England lost interest and made no concerted effort to save the match.
