RAF 100 years : Flypast of the century
Several thousand have gathered outside Buckingham Palace and City of London to watch the flypast of aircraft to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force.
About 100 planes representing the RAF over the years flew over the Mall following a parade by personnel watched by the Queen and other members of the Royal family. The display included new F-35 fighters, spitfire, 9 Tornados, Lancaster aircraft, Chinook helicopters.
Nine helicopters led the armada, while the Red Arrows brought up the rear.

The Queen called today “a very special day” and said the RAF’s “courage and sacrifice” will never be forgotten, “ Tenacity, skill and gallantry have been your hallmarks as you have helped to safeguard freedom and security in many parts o the world. Her appearance, a day after the monarch, 92, with her son and heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Catherine and Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Prince Philip, 97, did not attend.
