Rahul wins Bake Off under the JK Rowling spell
Rahul Mandal is the new winner of The Great British Bake off 2018.
Rahul was the early “Bake Off” favourite with his ambitious show stoppers although he was a nervous baker.
The finalists battled 32ᵒ heat and even face a show first with an outdoor cooking challenge. Kim-Joy and Ruby Bhogal were the show’s runners up.
Great British Bake Off champion 30-year-old Rahul Mandal, a research scientist from Rotherham defeated challengers Kim Joy Hewlett and Ruby Bhogal to take the title after ten spellbinding weeks watched by millions of viewers.
Rahul admitted it was absolutely magic to find out that the Harry Potter Author JK Rowling is a fan after her tweet urging him to run for the prime minister.
Rahul said “Winning bake off was the coolest thing I have done in my life and I was so pleased when Paul praised me for my bakes and Prue Leith often praised me for my flavours, even though I am not very good at accepting compliments. I think baking is a combination of physics, engineering and chemistry”.
The show hosted by Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding raked up 6.9 million viewers. Former host Sue Perkins who quit GBBO in 2016 when it was moved from the BBC in a £75million deal, confessed. “ Of course it hurts, it’s a bit annoying it has been so successful.”
