Rio Carnival: Dance to the rhythm of Samba
The Final round of the Brazil’s Rio Carnival Samba championship are underway despite threat from Zika virus. Samba is an eclectic blend of music, song and dance styles that Afro-Brazilians brought with them to the impoverished slums surrounding Rio after the abolition of slavery in 1888, became part of Rio Carnival Brazil’s cultural heritage, involving not only the poorest slums to the richest haciendas.
Rio de Janeiro’s 12 most elite samba schools are adjusting their G-strings, bikini costumes and feathered headdresses are ready for all-night parade dances to rhythms of the Cariocas Samba music, which estimates to attract around 6million people. The champion Samba school will be crowned on 10th February 2016 Wednesday, displaying the greatest carnival show on earth.
