Ripe jackfruits lured rogue elephants to residential Marayoor
The Forest department in Marayoor has banned sales of jackfruits in Rajeev Nagar as the taste of jackfruit has lured wild elephant to agriculture areas in the region. On Friday 20th May 2016, a rogue elephant, strayed into the residential area and caused enormous destruction of crops in Rajeev Nagar in Karimooty, Kerala, India.
According to forest officials, wild elephants often cross over to the human settlements in search of jackfruit. With the onset of Jackfruit season, elephant herds have started straying into farms and residential areas frequently. This elephants reaches out and plucking the jack fruit dust the sand off and shove the entire lot into his mout, The forest department have erected solar fence around the residential areas at a cost £ 10, 000.
Last year, an elephant gored a shop-owner to death in Babu Nagar Junction.
