Robert De Niro plans to open new 83-room central London Hotel
The Oscar winning star of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, Hollywood star Robert De Niro (72), teamed up with BD Hotels and UK Property from Capital Counties Properties (Capco), for the 83-room luxury boutique hotel Wellington, at the six victorian early 20th century buildings three of them Grade two listed in Wellington, Tavistock, Burleigh and Exeter Streets near the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The Wellington Hotel would honour the heritage if the area and also bring the best of New York Chic, which will also house a spa, member’s club and two restaurants built around a central courtyard conservatory, according to plans lodged with City of Westminster Council. Robert De Niro also owns the Nobu Hotel Manila in the Philippines.
He and BD Hotels founded by Ira Drukier and Richard Born run the Greenwich in Manhattan’s famous Tribeca district, which is hit among Hollywoods stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce, Kathy Perry and Jennifer Lawrence.
According to Sarah-Jane Curtis “the works start next year and finish in 2019 if the plans are approved.
Capo has owned Covent Garden for 1o years and brought several new leisure retail outlets to the area including Sushisamba restaurant which will open later this year.
