Rocket X – Triumph’s bike takes the helm….
A big toy for a big boy on a power trip? Triumph is celebrating a decade of The Rocket and a new special edition. Its designed to take you on a trip – challenge your grip and make you feel on the edge as you speed along the highways. Triumph has “repatriated” the making of this supreme bike back from Thailand to Hinckley in Leicestershire.
The Rocket III has been on the planet for 10 years now. A limited edition run of 500 bikes is being made to celebrate – called the Rocket X. It has a so-called “menacing all black makeover” which the Sunday Times describes as “punching above its weight in the looks department.”
It has a black flyscreen to give it a more “frightening” appearance, and it shrouds two chrome clocks for revs and speed with small digital data readouts for fuel, gear position and mileage. It has a large plush seat on “which you can shuffle up and down like a bored kid on a sunday shool pew.” – quote from a Sunday paper – 2 August 2015.
It has monster brakes and anti lock braking and considering its speed this is most important as it lurches away from standstill with commendable and breathtaking gasp.
At the end of this month at Saltlake Flats in Utah, Guy Martin hopes to take a bike with two engines to break the speed record of 400 mph. Watch this space and gasp.
