England lead Sri Lanka by 168 runs with 6 wickets remaining
England Captain Joe Root England’s Lynchpin scored an unbeaten 168, 18th Test century, his first since November 2019, as England lead of Sri Lanka is extended to 185 runs on the second day of the first Test in Galle. Debutant Dan Lawrence scores 73. An lbw decision was overturned when he was on 20 on day one and survived another lbw as he was outside the line, off the second ball of day two.
He will resume on Saturday with Jos Buttler who is unbeaten on seven. Root was scoring consistently, as he showed to sign of letting up, passing Kevin Petersen’s 151 from 2012 to claim a new England record, and continuing to get the better of noticeably tiring attack.
