Review of “Shoot to Marry” – My Real Life Romantic Comeday at The Raindance 28th Film Festival London 2020 featuring Steve Markle.
A Cynical but query? Appropriate? View of Love from a frustrated lonely thespian?
This film – written and directed by Don Hardy, won the “Best of Breakouts Audience” award at the Slamdance Film Festival where it premiered as a Canadian documentary film this year.
Available to watch during The Raindance Film Festival online ‘til 7 November, it also stars amongst others – Kate Keldon, Heidi Lee, Jade Lane, Jana Matthews, and Lisa Messinger. This film is a documentary with a small “d” by Steve Markle. Executive Producers are Steve Markle and Andrew Thomas Hunt. A therapist is part of the starring man’s search for a suitable female love partner as he relentlessy plays the field with a series of girlfriends.
Markle’s own parents are depicted as having had a long and happy marriage though they may have “borrowed” from the “medicine cabinet” (Viagra) to keep it up. There is an uncanny charm addressing how terribly lonely most people are but this could come more from personal experience than conveying an accurate story of young unmarried men and women, or those of any age for that matter!
Steve Markle also directed “Shoot to Marry”. He has been known to observe, “Real life is no romantic comedy. It’s a Stephen King movie”. One hopes in real life that he has less difficulty finding a love match than he does regarding his quote!
The film is made on a budget and must be taken to be a comedy where the lampooning of a single man and a stream of women cannot be interpreted as sexist or offensive. I feel sure there is an educational value for any viewer of any age to sit back and enjoy !
PS It’s quite possible Steve Markle may have a “more famous” female relative! It’s up to you to investigate now if you’re interested. I could find no link on the internet but still….the name’s the same……
