Sinabung volcano erupts in Indonesia
Indonesia was engulfed in darkness by a 23, 000-foot ash cloud after Mount Sinabung erupted on 19th February 2018, Monday morning. North Sumatra was plunged into darkness as the stratovolcano, Mount Sinabung in the Karo Plateau of Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, 25 miles from the Lake Toba, spewing plumes of smoke and ashes across the country. The last known eruption in 1600, when old lava flowed on its flanks.
Mount Sinabung is one of the three active volcanoes in Indonesia and was dominant for four centuries before it erupted in 2010, when it killed two people and again in 2014, this time killing 16 and in 2016, seven killed. Indonesia is the world’s most active volcanic region with 127 active volcanoes, which lies on the Pacific “ring of fire” where tectonic plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
