Snap the tutor
Timothy Yu, 25-year-old, founder of Hong Kong based company Snapask, a mobile app that enables students to ask questions with a snapshot and then matches them with a tutor within seconds to have a one-to-one instant tutoring session.
Launched last year Snapask is now serving over 100, 000 students in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore with over 5000 qualified tutors from top universities being asked tens of thousands of questions each day. Users can use images, text or audio to communicate.
According to Yu, Private tutors working in person will typically earn £ 14 ($20) an hour, but their capacity to earn is restricted by constraints of time. Tutors working online such as through this app, can earn lot more being able to work flexibly . A tutor is one tap away, Snapask is making education more accessible through technology.
Private tuition is basically flawed idea and in many cases it actively undermines a student’s ability to learn independently and improve their understanding of the subject. The effectiveness of private tutor is like that of a personal trainer at the gym. They can point you in the right direction and snow you how to use the equipment, but after that the impact weakens. In private tuition the tutor is doing most of the work while the students learns by osmosis. In an exam, there will be plenty of tutors helping with last-minute revision, in the hope that grades can be improved. Tutors will says that they offer the individual help that can make a big difference to the student. Online tutoring software presents a far more secure alternative to private tuition, with no direct contact between students and tutors and all interactions are logged and recorded.
Snapask, the latest app from AppEdu available both on IOS and Android, has radically changed the way we learn and ask all the question you were afraid to ask. Snapask has a pool of 600 tutors and students pay a monthly fee for help on up to 50 questions.
