and northern Europe wanted to witness the solar eclipse.  Northern Europe have observed spectacular scenes as

the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun. There was a total eclipse over Svalbard in the Arctic

The last time it happened was in 1999,  97% of the sun covered by the moon in the far north of Scotland and 84% in London.

Back in 1927 was when the UK saw the last total eclipse and for those missing observing this natural phenomenon will have to wait until 2026.

According to Dr Steve Bell, head of the HM Nautical Amanac Office the total eclipse will be seen from Torshavn in the Faroe Islands, where it will be visible for two minutes and two seconds.

Jamie Sloan, Education Manager at the Jordell Bank Discovery Centre said: “From the UK this will be a partial eclipse, not a total one where the Sun’s entire disc is obscured.”“Electricity system operators across Europe warn that as the eclipse comes it may cause blackouts all over Europe since 10.5 percent of Europe’s electricity comes from the Sun. Back in 1999 only 0.1 percent of the energy was taken from the Sun.
