SOMETHING IMPOSSIBLE TO DELIGHT US
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation – the 5th M I Movie!
Question:- What do people go to M I films for? Answer:- To see action, good looking people, drama, corruption and – of course, car and bike chases. I can guarantee there are plenty of all those things in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation but it does lack one thing – romance. Most dramas do thrive on a bit of loving coupling but there is little on show in this amazing saga to four high powered predecessors which guarantee to keep their audiences on the edge of their seats throughout.
Tom Cruise as Ethan Hawke looks eternally youthful – is it the Church of Scientology that gives this man the discipline to retain his young profile and his full head of healthy auburn hair, not to mention his shining green grey eyes and his dynamic athletic stature? Who knows the answer? Probably Tom, not to mention his wonderful smile with a perfect set of whiter than white prime teeth?
MI RN was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and depicts Ethan Hunt on the run from the US Government as he tries to prove the existence of The Syndicate – an international criminal consortium who are geared to doing illegal dealings some of which are connected to making fraudulent income from the banking industry.
We are treated to rubber masks which transform characters from one to another and fool the people they are intended to fool, a lady played by Rebecca Ferguson who is a tour de force in beating up her rivals including head locks done with her legs – she works well with Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg – who has a lead role in being the British Agent keen not to foul things up but finding it a challenge, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin who all feature in trying to straighten out the creases of this mysterious and persecutory crime plot.
The car and bike chases are a feature in part of this film and the body count on deceased pursuers seems a tad high. In the same vein the road chases whether by car lorry or bike are also extravagant and leave us gasping. The audience are obviously treated to the notion that there is an element of farce in just how much abuse on the roads our stars are capable of taking – is this a good thing or not? They survive so well that several tumbles with their vehicles where they ultimately land upside down still leaves them crawling out of the mess and walking free to face another day is normal.
Mi RN will obviously draw in hordes of viewers and then it will be on DVD and ultimately join its predecessors on the TV. However there is nothing quite like seeing it in “glorious technicolour” first and foremost with or without coke and popcorn to sugar the story. A clever plot involving the Prime Minister of GB and poison darts does nothing if not make the flavour pertain to not only Bond but also Bourne. Enjoy.
