South African woman held with drugs worth £2 million
A 47-year old South African woman, under a tourist visa to India, has been arrested after over 14 kg of ephedrine drugs, worth £2 million (Rs 20 crore), were allegedly recovered from her at the international airport at Kochi International airport in Nedumbassery on 19th July 2015. Ephedrine is stimulant to make Methamphetamine. She had concealed Ephedrine white powder in two bags in pouches while checking-in.
Customs officials said the woman was about to leave for Johannesburg via Doha on Jet Airways plane at 8.00pm, when the drugs were detected in her baggage
They said a test confirmed that she was carrying 14.580 kg of drugs, worth £2 million (Rs 20 crore).
Customs officials said that they are probing whether she was part of a racket involved in smuggling drugs out of the country.
