The saga between the ferry companies and Eurostar and the asylum seekers in France and the lorries and Eurostar continues. It is a battle with two forks. Yet again, queues of lorries in Ashford – the UK , waiting to board to go in the tunnel to France are at epic proportions, whilst on the other side of the tunnel the lorry queues there have provided further chances and opportunities for asylum seekers to board them and travel to a new life in the UK. Staffing levels on both sides of the tunnel are not sufficient to stem the flow of hopefuls hiding in and on lorries coming to the UK. Meanwhile camps near the boarding station increase in numbers and there are conflicts and scuffles between rival groups usually emanating from original countries of origin. Men are living in makeshift tents and trying to make ends meet during their wait to come to UK. It seems however that television crews are finding difficulty being able to make films of most of the saga which ultimately might produce an interesting documentary or extended news programme. Angry ferry personnel have even set fire to huge rubber tires to prevent access to France as well as exit. UK is not the only country which has problems with people who have managed to escape war zones and seek sanctuary elsewhere – mainly in Europe.
