Taiwan earthquake : two killed, two hundred injured and dozens trapped in buildings
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 shook Taiwan’s east coast. The worst hit building was the Marshal Hotel in the port city of Hualien, which partly crumpled and was left slanting on its side. Rescuers on cranes attempted to free people from its upper floors. Over 200 others have been injured.
Four other buildings including two hotels also crumpled and tilted during the earthquake and a military hospital had been damaged.
The tremor was felt shorty before midnight on Tuesday and the epicentre wsa very shallow at just 1km.
According to preliminary information the quake was about 6 miles (9.5km) deep.
