Tianjin massive explosion kills 50 and injures 550
A monstrous massive explosion hit China’s northern port city Tianjin home to 15million people, a major port and industrial area to the South East of Chinese capital Beijing, killing 50 people including 12 firefighters and another 36 missing, injuring 800. The first explosion about 23:30 ( 16:30 GMT) was followed by another seconds later. According to China Earthquake Networks Centre, the magnitude of the first explosion is equivalent to detonating 3tons of TNT and the second one was equivalent to 21 tons of TNT.
Some of the distressing photographs posted online showed internal doors being ripped off their hinges and glass shattered everywhere inside apartments. Cracks were visible in the buildings near the site of the blast according to China National Radio. The blast took place in a warehousing area storing dangerous goods in Tianjin’s Binhai development zone according to Xinhua.
