Tom Daley and Maty Lee secure Olympic Gold for GB
Dreams come true for Tom Daley who said m in 2005 “I want to get to the Olympics and win a gold medal” and 16 years later he realised his dream with Maty Lee secured a historic synchronised 10m platform Olympic title at Tokyo 2020.
Daley now aged 27, is Britain’s most decorated diver, who discipline has become one of the sport’s highest-profile gay athletes, a role model for others in the LGBTQ+ community
Daley struggled with pneumonia, concussion and. a stress fracture in 2016 and felt like the end of the world. “ Now I wish I could go back and tell myself: You’re going to get married, have a beautiful son and things are going to get much better”.
Now the daily impact of throwing his body from 10m and hitting the water at 35mph has taken its toll.. The five time European champion has taken up mindfulness, yoga and gyrotonics to prolong his career.
On Day 3 Japan surged to the top the medal table as the host nation doubled their gold tally reaching eight, Team USA on seven, Team GB won their first gold medals of these games through Adam Peaty in swimming, Tom Pidcock in Mountain biking and Tom Daleyu and Maty Lee in the diving. There are now 23 nations with at least one gold medal so far.
