Captive elephants play an important role in the Kerala culture and religion. Elephants are intelligent and have a strong memory, as some tamed elephants have become difficult to manage and resort to killing their mahouts. Behind every tame elephant there is mahout whose responsibility to take care of the elephant and when this bond fails elephant turn violent and goes on rampage.
