Liz Nielsen’s art is mesmerising. She uses the photogram – which was first mastered by Man Ray and Maholy-Nagy at the beginning of the twentieth century. No camera is used – hand made negatives and light sources are employed. “Painting with light” is how Nielsen describes her work. Nielsen’s work is full of colour and appeal.
Nielsen must work in total darkness when creating her pieces – even a hint of unintended light would expose the paper in unwanted ways, potentially jeopardising the final structure. Nielsen has mastered both the light and the dark to execute her works, inspired by colourists of the art historical cannon, the laws of physics and the mystical nature of the cosmos to create her contemporary colour photographs.
The same agent (Kathlene) can be contacted about artist Joni Sternbach who has produced many numbers of artworks mainly based on the surfboard in black and white form. Try to contact Cromwell Place Gallery South Kensington to book a viewing. ENJOY
