Dominant Danes were buoyed by a partisan crowd with Welsh supporters not permitted to travel to the Dutch capital Amsterdam scored four goals for the second consecutive game following their 4-1 thrashing of Russia in Group B and became the first side to reach last eight in the absence of recovering Christian Eriksen.
Wales captain Gareth Bale said “It’s not how we wanted the game to go from our point of view we started very well and then the game changed. We tried to play in the second half but made a mistake to concede which killed the momentum on our side”.
Kasper Dolberg comes in place of the injured Poulsen struck the opener with an outstanding curling finish from outside the box midway through yhe first half then pounced on a Neco Williams error to score the second goal shortly after half-time.
Maehle hit the third in the penultimate minute of normal time when he collected Mathias Jensen cross cut inside his man and fired home from eight yards out, before Braithwaite’s fourth in the 94th minute, after Henry Wilson had been send off for Wales which was awarded by VAR having initially been rules out for offside
