Who is who in contest to succeed Cameron.
David Cameron will not stand down for a while but confirmed he will definitely do so before the 2020 election, while polls show both Boris Johnson and Theresa May are ahead in popularity over George Osborne. His ratings as chancellor have gone down since July when he announced the controversial crackdown on tax credits which was defeated in the Lords.
52 per cent of the public are dissatisfied with Osborne’s performance. However only 22 percent of the people surveyed said they think Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and shadow chancellor John McDonnell would do a better job of running the economy.
Four in ten think Labour at the moment would do a worse job than Osborne. The fact that Boris Johnson could back the campaign to quit the EU make some Tories think this could give him popularity. In fact these statistics can change radically coming up to the next general election. The details quoted here are current ones from a MORI poll.
