World Cup Women’s Hockey: Netherlands wins a record eight time
Netherlands were crowned Women’s Hockey World Cup winners for a record eight time after crushing Ireland 6-0. Four goals in seven-minute spell around the half-time break as the Dutch trounced Ireland.
The Dutch’s first penalty corner finished in a powerful shot from Lauren stam, before Ireland’s Shirley McCay produced a brave diving block.
Netherlands doubled their advantage in the 19th minute after McFerran made a superb kick save but Jonker bounced on the rebound to score. Then Van Male and Pheninckx scoring within a two-minute spell to put their team four goals clear. The fifth goal came via Keetels and final goal form flick from Maasakker.
