World ushers New Year with fire works
The world ushered the New Year with fire works as revelers in Australia’s Sydney Harbour and New Zealand’s Auklad Sky Tower, among the first to welcome 2016.
In London more than 100,000 people watched the fireworks display by River Thames with thousands of extra police officers on duty In Edinburgh, the traditional Hogmanay party received a New Year message from British Astronaut Tim Peake who was broadcasting live from the international space station.
In New York, over a million people gathered at the Times Square to watch the famous ball descend, while in Brazil, two million strong crowds packed Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach to watch a spectacular fire works display that will see the city host the 2016 Olympics.
